A simulated drunken driving accident today at the Manteca High stadium will “kill” a high school senior and seriously injure others.

Its part of the Every 15 Minutes initiative that public safety organizations stage every spring to warn graduating seniors about the dangers of drinking and driving.

This year the public can see part of the aftermath during a live feed of the mock funeral set for Friday at 9:45 a.m. at Christian Worship Center. You can see the live feed by going to www.MantecaBulletin.com and clicking on the banner. The event usually gets fairly emotional.

High schools involved are Manteca, Calla, East Union, Sierra, and be.tech academy.

The funeral typically includes eulogy and letters read aloud from “deceased” students and their parents as well as remarks by victims of DUI drivers and those who prosecute such offenses. The funeral will include friends of the victim serving as pall bearers to bring the casket into the church.

Today’s accident includes responding police, fire and ambulance who will work to tend to victims in the simulated crash. The coroner will also be on hand.
