MCC PC appointments distruct

The Manteca Planning Commission is being “reset” on Tuesday to align with the move to district council elections.

There are four commission seats and an alternate position that will be filled during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

But this time around, three of the commission members will ideally be from each the council districts that has an open planning commission seat.

The council member for that respective district will make the appointment with the concurrence of the council.

The fifth at-large member — as well as an alternate — will be appointed by Mayor Gary Singh with council concurrence.

If there aren’t applicants from a  specific district, if a council member representing that district does not want to appoint any of those that apply or if the council doesn’t concur with that council member’s nomination for their district, then the selection process will include others who have applied that reside in other districts.
The council member will still nominate an individual as would the mayor with the at large and alternate position.

Those who have applied and where they reside are as follows:

*District 1 (Councilman Charlie Halford) commission incumbent David Mendoza and Benny Dhanda.

*District 2 (Councilman Jose Nuno) commission incumbent Celeste Fiore, Ken Harvey and Eric Hayes.

*District 3 (Councilman Dave Breitenbucher) Victoria Cortez

*District 4 (Councilman Mike Morowit) commission incumbent Ron Laffranchi, commission incumbent Sean Randall, and Abendra Tahal.

The at-large and alternate appointed by the mayor will serve through Dec. 31, 2026.

The District 4 appointee will serve through Dec. 31, 2026, the District 3 appointee through Dec. 31, 2026, and one at large will be appointed through Dec. 31, 2024.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center council chambers, 1001 W. Center St.
