The longest running Christmas tradition in the South County takes place Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m.
That’s when the Ripon Oratorio Society stages the 78th annual presentation of Handel's “Messiah.”
The beloved oratorio — which beautifully captures the essence of Christ's birth, death and glorious resurrection — takes place at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 517 Orange Ave. in Ripon.
Under the direction of Yohan Partan, over 120 singers from around the area will perform the classic choruses from Handel's work.
Soloists include soprano Kelsi Schuller, alto Monica Stelpstra, tenor Ric Campero and bass Kevin Ringsby. Accompanists include organist Glenn De Jong, pianist Teresa Eschen and Robert Stone on the trumpet.
During the performance, an offering will be taken to allow the tradition can continue.
Following the performance, a light lunch will be served as a community celebration.
