Four-legged furry pets of the Camp Fire victims in Butte County have found kindhearted  friends in Lathrop.

Aunty’s Grooming on West Yosemite Avenue has partnered with Wags & Whiskers Pet Rescue to raise money for pets that survived the Northern California wildfire, the deadliest fire in California’s history. The nonprofit 501(c)3 all-volunteer group whose mission is “to save animals at risk,” rely on generous donations only. Each animal rescue costs an average of $350.

Wags & Whiskers Pet Rescue was brought to the attention of the owners of Aunty’s Grooming by one of their customers.

As of Tuesday, they have raised $600, with $400 received after Tony Martin’s appearance this past weekend on Good Day Sacramento where he talked about the family business fund-raiser for the pets affected by the Paradise, California, area wildfires.

Aunty’s Grooming is run by Martin’s wife, Cindy, who is one of two full-time employees. Tony, whose full-time job is as an accountant at the University of the Pacific, helps as a part-time worker.

“We decided on this rescue (Wags & Whiskers) because they help dogs and cats, as we groom dogs and cats. We will donate our November and December 2018 Laundry-Mutt (Self-Wash) proceeds to this cause,” he explained.

“Our (Facebook) page will have our current status. We will keep the fundraiser open through the end of the year. We will forward the funds in early January,” Tony Martin said.

According to the latest reports from various sources, the Camp Fire in Butte County has caused 79 fatalities, 12 civilian and five firefighter injuries, and destroyed more than 18,000 structures which includes 13,503 single-family homes and 118 apartment buildings. Insured damage, as of Monday, was estimated to be $7.5-$10 billion. It is the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history, and the deadliest in the United States since the Cloquet fire in 1918.

Aunty’s Groomig is located in the same building that houses Doggie Doghouse on West Yosemite between McKinley Avenue and D’Arcy Parkway. It’s been in business since November 2007, and fortunately survived the recession of 2008.

“We have supported the Manteca K9 Association and San Joaquin K9 Association. Last year, we asked our customers to help the victims of the Santa Rosa firestorm. Collectively we donated over 500 pounds of pet food, for dogs and cats, and monetary gifts to the Humane Society of Sonoma County in Santa Rosa,” Martin said.Four-legged furry pets of the Camp Fire victims in Butte County have found kindhearted  friends in Lathrop.
