Commons at Union Ranch donation helps homeless students

The Manteca Unified School District has about 900 students who are classified as homeless.

Some are families who may be doubling up or living together with another family under one roof due to hard times. Other cases may be more extreme cases.

In any event, the Women of Woodbridge, for years, have been trying to make a difference.

Polly Smith, who is the president of the Women of Woodbridge for the past two years, was thankful for the support of others in this endeavor.

In particular, the Commons at Union Ranch – located next door to the Del Webb retirement community – donated $579 from last week’s Valentine Day Dinner.

“This was the proceeds from the raffle and dinner,” said Deanna Dedios, who is the Director of Sales & Marketing at the Commons.

About 150 attended the Valentine’s Day Dinner held last Friday at the Manteca senior living apartments.

“The timing couldn’t have been better,” Smith said.

The Women of Woodbridge held their annual Fashion Show last weekend – a big fundraising event to helping the homeless youngsters at MUSD.

Women of Woodbridge along with the Manteca Soroptimists, Remax, the Manteca Interfaith Community Appeal, and the Manteca Quiltes, to name a few, are among the many groups in recent years credited with helping the homeless students in various ways.
