MISTLIN PARK EXPANSION

The City of Ripon is expected to bring on Modesto Sand & Gravel to demolish and remove the barn and other structures on Clinton South Avenue, clearing the way for the Mistlin Sports Park expansion plans.

Plans to expand Mistlin Sports Park near Clinton South Avenue could take a step forward.

The Ripon City Council is expected to give the go-ahead to Modesto Sand and Gravel to demolish and remove a storage building in that area today at 6 p.m. during open session at City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

The City of Ripon previously acquired the land north of the developed portion of the park for future expansion.

“This existing land has an unlivable house, wooden barn, metal storage building, and a detached garage,” said Public Works Director James Pease in his staff report.

He noted that due to safety concerns coupled with poor existing condition of the metal storage building, staff made the recommendation to have it demolished and removed.

Modesto Sand and Gravel would handle that job along with also demolishing and removing a modular office inside the building and the concrete pad.

The “unlivable” house would be inspected for asbestos prior to removal, Pease said.

Other work, per contract, include an existing residential well that would need to be abandoned and a small underground diesel storage tank would also call for removal.

The detached garage, meanwhile, would remain and will continue to be used for storage.

Cost for Modesto Sand and Gravel to do the work would be in the amount “not to exceed” $13,000, paid via Parks & Recreation Public Facilities Financing Plan Fund.

In other agenda items:

·         Council members are expected to OK a change order submitted by Estate Design & Construction, Inc. in the amount not exceed $2,000 (funding by the Community Development Block Grant) for the removal of a tree conflicting with location for proposed improvements at the Ripon Senior Center.

·         They’ll look at authorizing the purchase of a new phone system and infrastructure. The upgrade would be in the amount not exceeding $23,550 with funding coming from various sources (85 percent from the General Fund coupled with Water Fund, Sewer Fund, and Garbage Fund).

·         Elected leaders could approve and authorize staff to distribute the second installment of the Poet Laureate program grant money ($5,000) to the Ripon Art League in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding pact.

·         Chief Danny Sauer of the Ripon Police Department is scheduled to review the state laws governing e-bikes and scooters in an effort to establish clear and safety standards and outline community outreach and education initiatives designed to encourage responsible riding.
