Second Harvest of the Greater Valley, formerly Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin & Stanislaus Counties, received a $25,000 donation Thursday from the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation.

The money will support operations of the food bank located in Manteca. Second Harvest is committed to fighting hunger by providing and distributing food to those in need.

Especially during COVID-19.

“As we begin to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic, food insecurity is still a major issue across the state,” said Tami Holtzman of Delta Dental.

She added: “Not only is a lack of access to healthy food detrimental to overall health and wellness, but there are also consequences for oral health.”

This was part of a larger announcement by the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation, which provided $1.5 million to 22 different food banks from throughout the state.

“As the effects of the pandemic continue to ripple through our communities, we knew we couldn’t take our foot off the gas in terms of providing support to the organizations that help millions of Californians put food on the table and provide a crucial building block to health,” said Kenzie Ferguson, vice president of the foundation, in her press release.
