HORSE COP

A benefit dinner dance on Saturday will help fund Manteca Police Department’s mounted unit.

The “Ride with Pride” dinner to support police officers that are part of the horse unit is at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

There are tickets still available. Tickets are $45 each and include a full chicken or beef dinner with sides. A no host bar with be available as will dancing after dinner to music supplied by a disc jockey. Tickets can be purchased by calling  209-456-8128.

The Mounted Unit also will have a challenger coin available for purchase at the dinner.

The coins are $10 each and are uniquely made in the shape of a horseshoe. The challenge coins besides being available at the dinner can be purchased at any time by calling 209-456-8128.

The Manteca Police Mounted Unit officers supply their own horses and gear.

The mounted unit is deployed at community events such as the Pumpkin Fair in October and Crossroads Street Fair in April. In the past they have been used to patrol shopping center parking lots during the holiday season. The high vantage point of the officers allows them to see criminal activity taking place around cars.
