Principal Frank Gonzales shares a moment at Thursday’s drive-thru diploma pick-up with his daughter, Isabella, who is a 2020 graduate of Manteca High.

Members of Manteca High’s Class of 2020 had another day of celebration on Thursday.

The drive-thru diploma pick-up was their chance to sport their cap and gowns while returning text books and electronic devices – the same ones used over the past few months for distance learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic – and pose for graduation photos.

“It’s been excellent,” said Principal Frank Gonzales, who credited his staff for rising to the occasion in making the event special for the graduating class.

The graduates include his daughter, Isabella Gonzales, who will be attending California State University, Monterey Bay.

The morning consisted of a steady stream of vehicles, some decorated to ring out Buffaloes spirit, featuring the graduates and family members.

Garren Genilla enjoyed the special moment that paid tribute to his class consisting of 389 graduates. “I was pretty great,” he said.

Graduation is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, beginning at 9 a.m. Lathrop, Sierra, Weston Ranch, and East Union will have their ceremonies on Aug. 1 as well. That’s just five days before the next school year starts on Aug. 6.

Tech, New Vision, and Calla graduation ceremonies are set for Friday, July 31.

“What type of graduation? We’re still not sure at this point,” Gonzales added.

Diploma pick-ups scheduled for today are BE.Tech at 8 a.m., Sierra High from 8 to 11 a.m., and Lathrop High from 10 a.m. to noon. East Union had their diploma pick up on Wednesday and Thursday.
