Ripon VFW Post 1051 supports all combat veterans, veterans, their families, and the community.

One way of doing that is through the sales of fireworks.

VFW Post 1051 was open for business this week with the Phantom fireworks booth back at the familiar location in the Save Mart Shopping Center parking lot, 1453 Goodwin Dr.

“We had a good first day,” said Vince Benitez, who, along with Tim Davis, is spearheading the VFW fireworks booth.

He indicated that the total sales on Tuesday came out to about $4,000.

Proceeds will go towards scholarships for graduation high school seniors, various veteran organizations, and care packages for those stationed abroad, to name a few.

Those efforts are further subsidized by the sales of meals that’s open to the public – namely, the Wednesday lunches, Friday dinners, and Sunday breakfasts – offered at the local VFW hall at 10455 W. Ripon Rd.

The VFW Post 1051 fireworks will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from now through the Fourth of July, Monday.

According to the Ripon police, only safe and sane fireworks can be discharged during this time – from now until midnight, Monday. They’ll be out in force with extra officers patrolling, searching out for those discharging illegal fireworks.

The Ripon Chamber of Commerce, in addition, posted the various firework booths in town.

Included are the following:

·         Ripon High Athletics – 860 N. Jack Tone Rd., Phantom firework.

·         Ripon House of Praise – 600 W. Milgeo Ave., Phantom fireworks.
