An old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration will take place in Manteca on Independence Day
It will include the traditional Sunrise Kiwanis parade and Manteca Kiwanis pancake breakfast with an all-day family event at the Big League Dream sports complex capped by aerial fireworks.
The BLD activities being organized by Mary Mueller of MM Vendor Events will run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“Families will be able to go over right after the parade and have lunch while enjoying the activities,” Mueller said.
The event will include entertainment throughout the day being lined up by Yoli Vaughn. Plans are for traditional Fourth of July picnic style activities such as sack races and three-legged races.
There will be vendors as well.
Fagundes Meats will be on hand with their food truck. Big League Dreams will also have their two restaurants open. Vendor space is $100 per booth.
“The goal is have a family friendly Fourth where you can have fun with family and friends,” Mueller said.
There will also be Manteca Police and Manteca Fire Department demonstrations. She plans to have misters to keep attendees cool plus other games for kids.
In the past events at BLD would start in the late afternoon. The format this year is designed to allow people to go to the celebration directly after the parade, drop by during the day or go there prior to the fireworks to take in the offerings and have a front row seat for the aerial fireworks display. The fireworks are launched immediately north of the BLD complex from the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
BLD will be charging a $2 admission for those 13 and older. The first 500 people to bring a canned good item will be able to enter for $1. The canned goods are being donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. Those 12 and under will be admitted at no charge.

The pancake breakfast conducted by the Manteca Kiwanis takes place from 7 to 11 a.m. on the Fourth at Angelo’s Restaurant on North Main Street.
Fourth of July parade entries
The Sunrise Kiwanis are seeking entries for the Fourth of July parade.
The theme this year is “Rocketing into the Future.”
There will be a new staging area to limit infringing on the nearby neighborhood. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Jason Street across from Golden West School and heads down Main Street where it turns west onto Center Street and will end at Library Park.
There is no entry fee for non-equestrian entries as the Fourth of July parade is made possible with the Sunrise Kiwanis’ proceeds of their annual downtown Pumpkin Fair.
The deadline for entries is Friday, June 28, at 11 a.m.
