More than a hundred homeless people in Manteca will be helped thanks to Wyatt Cordoza’s Eagle Scout project.

The member of Boy Scout 423 organized a “goodie bags of essentials” project in his bid to earn the highest honor in Scouting.

Each bag contains bottled water, assorted toiletries along with items such as socks, gloves and scarves.

Cordoza learned of a need that a Manteca church had in their efforts to assist homeless individuals on an ongoing basis, After determining what items were preferred he secured donations and purchased everything from toothbrushes and toothpaste to deodorant.

He then organized fellow Scouts to assemble the packets on a Saturday morning at Sequoia Heights Baptist Church.

Paul Acosta was his Eagle project advisor while Melissa Moebius is his scoutmaster.

Cordoza said he was drawn to Scouting thanks to the opportunities it afforded him to go hiking and camping  from places as near as Lake Hogan to locales such as Death Valley, Mono Lake, the Great Basin, and the Grand Canyon to name a few.”

“When I was younger it was about the camping,” Cordoza said. “Now its fun being able to teach the younger Scouts how to do things.”

Cordoza, 16, is a student at St. Mary’s High School in Modesto.

He is the son of Kory and Barbara Cordoza.
