The Kaiser Permanente emergency department expansion project is before the Manteca Planning Commission when they meet Thursday.
The emergency department expansion includes 34 treatment bays, a relocated ambulance drop-off on West Yosemite Avenue, a new walk-in emergency waiting area and drop-off with access from St. Dominics Drive, a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging trailer, and a relocated existing computed tomography (CT) trailer.
The new 27,450-square-foot building will be located to the south of the existing hospital, parallel to West Yosemite Avenue.
A landscaped median with protected turn pockets will be installed on the four-lane West Yosemite Avenue arterial.
The current 4,000 square-foot, 11-bay emergency department will be renovated to include additional and support space as part of a separate tenant improvement project after completion of the project
There will be 112 additional parking spaces added to give the overall campus 646 spaces or 80 more than required.
Construction of the new emergency department would displace existing medical facility parking, which would be relocated to the east along St. Dominics Drive. The parking area to the west of the proposed ED would be replaced with new parking and an ambulance drop-off zone.
In addition, traffic signals will be installed at Yosemite and St. Dominic’s Drive.
The city has already conditioned future development to the west and south of Kaiser to place a roundabout at Fishback and Yosemite.
Also included in the project is construction of a segment of Center Street on the northern edge of the hospital campus.
The project will take 28 months to complete.
The commission meets Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center council chambers, 1001 W. Center St.
