‘Kar Kapades’ coming to River Islands Oct. 10
car show
Some of the same vehicles from last year’s Hot Rod Party will be on display at the upcoming Kar Kapades at the River Island soccer field on Oct. 10.

Pete Paulsen’s Hot Rod Party was held last year as a possible finale after 31 years.

But the longtime French Camp organizer is leaving the door open. “I might bring it back someday,” he said on Friday.

For now, Paulsen is gearing for his ‘Kar Kapades @ River Islands” scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is $8 general admission (age 10 and under are free), and $5 for seniors and military.

The event benefiting his holiday Bikes for Kids endeavor is being moved to the spacious Lathrop community on the soccer field next to River Island Ballpark.

The car show will once again welcome American made or powered vehicles of all years. He’s thrilled with the capacity – more than twice as much space as his French Camp ranch – along with the access road to River Island and parking availability.

The event will feature a lineup of celebrity and personalities – namely, Heather Storm, John D’Agostino, DJ Johnny ‘T,’ and Jon Provost.

Older visitors may remember Provost as Timmy Martin from the television series, ‘Lassie,’ which aired from 1957 to 1964.

Younger folks might know Storm, who is an actress, host and produce, for her work on ‘Garage Squad’ and ‘Nightingale.’ She’s also known for exploring America in her classic 1965 Mustangs.

Kar Kapades will again feature Fagundes BBQ along with a variety of vendors – included are arts, crafts, auto-related items, food and beverages.

Tom ‘The Giant’ Nye will handle the raffle and auction

Registration for the car show is scheduled from 8 to 11 on the morning of the event. Entry is $35 for early registration and $45 on the day of the event.

Paulsen has over 100 donated bikes for his Bikes for Kids, which was established in 2018. Each year, he and his group of volunteers refurbish bikes as close to their original glory, distributing them at no cost to children of needy families in December.
