Lathrop ratepayers can expect to start paying more money for throwing out the trash.

On Monday, the Lathrop City Council approved a request from Lathrop Sunrise Sanitation – now doing business as Republic Services – to increase the monthly rates for all customers to line up with the consumer price index as outlined in the contract that the company inked with the city.

For the measured 12-month period ending in February, the Consumer Price Index for urban consumers in the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose area – which Lathrop utilizes in its CPI-based contracts – showed an increase of 3.6 percent.

That means that the average huseholds in Lathrop will be paying $1.13 more every month over the course of the next year until the rates are reassessed based on the rate of inflation for the previous year.

The average senior residential customer will see an increase of $0.68.

The increases are as follows:

*Standard residential homeowners will see their rates for a 30-gallon container rise from $28.20 to $29.22, a 60-gallon container rise from $30.66 to $31.76, and a 90-gallon container rise from $35.31 to $36.58.

*Senior residential customers will see their rates for a 30-gallon container rise from $20.42 to $21.16, a 60-gallon container rise from $22.20 to $23.00, and a 90-gallon container rise from $25.53 to $26.45.

*Mobile home and trailer park customers will see their rates for a 30-gallon container rise from $22.97 to $23.80, a 60-gallon container rise from $23.49 to $24.34, and a 90-gallon container rise from $27.60 to $28.59.

*Senior mobile home and trailer park customers will see their rates for a 30-gallon container rise from $16.64 to $17.24, a 60-gallon container rise from $17.01 to $17.62, and a 90-gallon container rise from $19.99 to $20.72.

Commercial rates for containers will be assessed a 3.6 percent increase on each size based on the agreement with the City of Lathrop – which caps the annual increase at a maximum of 4 percent.

The contract with Republic Services, which was approved in June of 2014, will be up for renewal in June of next year.
