Academic Decathlon students from Lathrop High – shown here from the recent Brain Bowl event – will take part in today’s 42nd Annual Academic Decathlon Competition hosted by the San Joaquin County Office of Education at the LHS Large Gym.

Lathrop High will once again entertain the Academic Decathlon Competition scheduled today in the school’s Large Gym, 647 Spartan Way.

The theme for the 42nd annual event is The American Revolution.

Featured will be 14 schools from San Joaquin County – included will be Manteca High, Weston Ranch High, Sierra High, and Lathrop High – with the Super Quiz kicking off the high-energy competition at 1:30 p.m.

The Academic Decathlon is open to the public.

Competition started last month with online essays and objective testing.

Each student will be required to give a speech and do interviews.

The closing ceremony will take place at about 3 o’clock.

The winning team will advance to the State Academic Decathlon Championship in Santa Clara, from March 24 through 26 – SJCOE’s Educational Foundation will pay for all fees.

Other awards include $5,000 renewable tuition scholarships to the University of the Pacific, cash prizes provided by the SJCOE Educational Foundation, $1,000 for the top overall scorer, and $500 scholarships for the top speech and interview.
