Mistlin Sports Park is getting a new addition.
Thanks to a donation from the Love Ripon Group, a bench and tree will be installed by the playground for the community to enjoy.
The cost for the City of Ripon, according to Director of Public Works Ted Johnston, will be about $1,000 from the General Fund for installation of the bench and the planting of the tree.
The project also calls for a 6-by-9- inch donor plaque to be installed by Outdoor Creations.
The donation of the tree and sandstone park bench – materials and shipping valued at $1,500 – was accepted at the May 8 City Council meeting.
Johnston said in his report that the scheduled shipping for the bench will take about three months to arrive.
Love Ripon is made up volunteers and donors.
Together, they recently conducted a series of projects around town in an effort to improve and enhance the community.
Love Ripon began out of the success of Love Modesto. More than 1,200 people showed up for that one day on March 7, 2009 to help make a difference in their community.
Since then, the Love Our Cities efforts have expanded to more than 50 communities, involving well over 111,000 people, from young, old, and even the disabled.
They’ve collectively put in around 388,500 volunteer hours while donating over $9.4 million in services to their respective communities.
