Making sure Gold Star families sacrifices aren’t forgotten Sunday
memorial weekend
A volunteer holds one of the flags greeting Gold Star families as they entered Woodward Park with a Patriot Riders motorcycle escort during a previous Memorial Day Weekend event.

Late Sunday morning in Manteca will be punctured by the sounds of what will be dozens upon dozens of motorcycles rolling down the streets.

The riders will come from all over Northern California joined in one shared mission — to shield and honor the families of those who have fallen serving America.

On Sunday it will be to escort the Gold Star families that lost husbands, fathers, wives, mothers, sons, and daughters that gave their lives in war zones across the globe.

The Patriot Riders will gather at Golden West School on North Main Street at 10:30 a.m. to lead a procession of Gold Star families that will also be escorted by Manteca Police to Woodward Park where ceremonies honoring the sacrifices they and their loved ones made will take place at 11:30 a.m. on  the main stage of the Not Forgotten Memorial Weekend.

The Not Forgotten Memorial Weekend event spans three days at Woodward Park in South Manteca with four memorials open to the public Saturday through Monday.

Arrangements have been made for four memorials to be on display. They include a replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Traveling Korean War Memorial, the Remembering Our Fallen National Memorial, and the First Responders Memorial.

That is in addition to the 7,000 wooden crosses that will be placed on the grass at Woodward Park acknowledging the American lives lost in the Global War on Terror.

There is no admission charge.
