Manteca's Victor Nuno is safe at home under the tag of Hoover-Tyler's Malachi Sepulveda during Saturday’s Section 6 10U All-Star game. Hoover-Tyler of Stockton prevailed 13-10.

ATWATER – Manteca dug itself a hole Saturday night and came close to getting out but came up short in a 13-10 loss to Hoover-Tyler of Stockton in opening-round action of the Section 6 10U All-Star Tournament at Osborn Park.

Trailing 13-5 going into the bottom of the sixth, Manteca’s Victor Nuno reached on an error to start the frame and took third a double by Aiden Freitas (2 for 2, double, three runs). Nuno scored on a groundout by Dominick Kotta and Brian Geer (2 for 4, two RBI, run) singled in Aiden Freitas.

After Brach Carabello walked, Terrance Montgomery (2 for 2, home run, three RBI) fired a three-run line-drive home run over the left-field fence to bring Manteca within 13-10, but that was as close as the game would get.

Manteca’s Blake Scalise was 3 for 5 with two runs.

Malachi Sepulveda led Hoover-Tyler at the plate, going 3 for 5 with three RBI, a double and a run. Matthew Wheeler was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Parker Drebert went 2 for 4 with two runs.

On Sunday, Manteca took an early lead but was eliminated in a 12-7 loss to Turlock American.
