Oswaldo Diosdado is a heavy equipment technician at Republic Services.

The Manteca resident has been with the Republic Services garbage collection service for the past 10 years and possesses the skills that qualified him for the upcoming ROAD-EO National Championship in Phoenix.

This is a national garbage truck rodeo held every two years in Arizona and offers Republic Services employees the opportunity to demonstrate their expert driving and maintenance skills.

Diosdado is among 93 competitors squaring off in the two-day event that kicks off on Feb. 21.

He qualified by competing at the local and regional levels. For Diosdado, this is his return visit to ROAD-EO, having competing at the 2021 championship.

The ROAD-EO National Championship is Republic Services’ largest employee engagement event, featuring the best drivers, heavy equipment operators and technicians from across the country.

Competition involves drivers and operators to navigate through timed courses with many of the same challenges and obstacles that they often face on the field.

Technicians such as Diosdado will take part in a timed assessment to identify specific maintenance issues.

The top three finishers will receive cash prizes and paid time off.
