Aging classrooms — with the newest being portables exceeding 40 years in use — are being replaced as promised via three high profile two-story classroom building projects.
Two are currently under construction.
*The 26-classroom, two-story building along Union Road on the East Union campus complete with a modern media center and learning stairs.
*The 20-clsssroon, two-story complex along Mikesell Avenue on the Manteca High campus.
Both are targeted for completion this summer.
The largest of all Measure A classroom replacement projects received the Manteca Unified School District board’s blessing to proceed on Wednesday.
The project is a 32-clssrtoom, two-story structure along Sherman Avenue.
Just like East Union’s new 2-story building, it includes a modern media center and learning stairs.
It is targeted for competition in 2027.
When finished, it will be the largest classroom structure ever built in Manteca Unified.
The $56.7 million price tag of the next Manteca High masterplan component is the most expensive undertaking using Measure A bond funds.
It also will include $2.3 million in interim housing for aging classroom wings that need to be demolished to make way for the new two-story structure along Sherman Avenue.
The board Wednesday also authorized selling the remaining $130 million of the $260 million bond approved by voters in November 2020.
It will finance the Manteca High modernization and safety work as well as other projects throughout the district.
The current Measure A work — part of an overall $65 million undertaking at East Union and Manteca high schools — also includes building a new small gym at the North Union Road campus as well as a new weight room and indoor PE facility that will also accommodate aerobics and wrestling.
The new small gym should be completed in the coming months.
