Founded in 1990 as a non-profit organization, the Manteca Historical Society has made great strides in providing a local museum with a collection of artifacts, documents, and numerous photographs from over the years.
Beginning next week, both buildings of the museum will be open to the public on Wednesdays and Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“As with many Manteca organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic left significant challenges for the Manteca Historical Society and Museum,” said board Director Mary Gomes Del Pino on Tuesday.
The museum is making a comeback with the following community activities also taking place in the parking lot:
· Car Show at the Museum – Saturday, Sept. 30, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hosted by the Central Valley Early Iron Car Club, this admission-free event will feature a variety of classic cars.
· Art Show – Saturday, Oct. 21, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Local artist will be Gibb Bortello, who will showcase his artwork to the community. Admission is free.
· Kids’ Night at the Museum – Saturday, Oct. 28, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or grandparent for this free Halloween event featuring games, drawings, and prizes. The featured attraction is the Pumpkin Walk (youngsters can take home the decorated pumpkin with the winning number).
In addition, the Manteca Historical Society continues to seek out new members and volunteers. Annual cost for membership is $15.
