Pedestrian struck by car, killed in Lathrop
police lights

A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday morning while walking in the area of Lakeside Drive and Patriot Way in River Islands.

According to Lathrop Police Chief Ryan Biedermann, the victim – whose identity has not yet been released – passed away at the scene.

Several streets in the neighborhood were closed Tuesday morning while Lathrop Police Services carried out an investigation with the assistance of its Major Accident Investigation Team – which so far has revealed that the incident was a “tragic accident” without external factors.

“This appears to be one of those tragic accidents at this time,” BIedermann said. “The person who struck the pedestrian did stop, and there’s nothing illegal right now that we’re aware of. From what we have ascertained, it’s a traffic accident.”

While the identities of the driver and the victim have not yet been released to the public, Biedermann said that he believed that the family of the victim had been contacted by officials from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, and more information may be released at a future time.
