Ray of Hope is in need of diapers, other baby items

The Ray of Hope Children’s Crisis & Resource Services are in need of larger sized disposable diapers, pull-ups and baby formula.

Ray of Hope has been faced with the on-going challenge of replenishing such items – also needed are baby wipes, baby food, baby bottles and hygiene products, to name a few – given the tough economic climate.

“We’re servicing more children while seeing a decrease in donations due to the increase in gas and groceries,” Executive Director Laura Saunders recently said.

She added: “Middle class families have been struggling to make ends meet so for these children who are already in crisis due to poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, sexual assault and so many more reasons we provide services – they’re even more vulnerable as prices of everything increase.”

Supplies on the shelves can be seen running low, according to the recent Ray of Hope post via social media.

Saunders is also concerned about the health risks associated with poor hygiene for babies.

“The risks of babies and toddlers not having access to clean diapers can become a serious medical issue. Children sitting on soiled diapers due to living situations they have no control over can create rashes, urinary tract infection, bladder infections and kidney infections,” she said.

Donations for the Diapers & More drive can be dropped off at the Ray of Hope office, 113 W. Yosemite Ave., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment.
