Ripon allows only sale & use of safe and sane fireworks within city

Look for the symbol.

By that, the Ripon Police Department said Tuesday via social media that fireworks discharged from noon today (June 28) through midnight July 4 within the community must be labeled “Safe and Sane.”

“Use of safe and sane fireworks outside of this period is prohibited by city ordinance. Firework devices not displaying the (safe and sane) symbol is unlawful to possess,” said police, who are encouraging folks to be safe and responsible while celebrating Independence Day.

Prohibited, as defined by the city ordinance, are firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, bombs, sparklers, chasers, snakes, or other fireworks containing any explosive or flammable substances.

Police along with the Ripon Consolidated Fire District will be allowed to cite owners, occupants and others on the property where such fireworks are being discharged illegally.

“The department will have extra officers working to address the discharge of illegal fireworks and the safety concerns that may arise from it,” police added.

The sale of safe and sane fireworks in Ripon are currently on sale, including at these locations:

·         TNT Fireworks – American Legion Post 190, 206 S. Stockton St.; One Church, 1043 S. Acacia Ave.

·         Phantom Fireworks – Ripon House of Praise, 600 W. Milgeo Ave.; Tractor Supply, 860 Jack Tone Rd.; Save Mart, 1453 Goodwin Dr.; Ace Hardware, 150 N. Wilma Ave.

Proceeds will benefit the various local non-profit groups and organizations.
