Veterans Day is Nov. 12. The Ripon Unified school board, however, will recognize those who have served their country at Monday’s meeting in an early celebration of Veterans Day. The open session begins 7 p.m. in the City of Ripon Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave. Ernie Tyhurst, who is wrapping up his final term on the school board, along with the district’s Chief Operations Officer Frank Jerome will be among the veterans honored during Superintendent Ziggy Robeson’s report. He’ll be joined by Gary Dias, Jeff Hessler, Larry Moreno, Sgt. Robert Randall, Col. David Schmith, Ken Tyhurst and Alicia Vasche. Other agenda items include: • Deanna Shirlock of CT Brayton & Sons will provide an update on the Colony Oak Elementary School Modernization Project. • Ripon High varsity football players Nico Ilardi and Troy Brogan will speak on behalf of their fundraising efforts for new helmets for the program. Through their hard work, they’ve raised over $22,000 for the new Speed Flex helmets via donations from the community along with the Ripon Quarterback Club, Freedom Fire Protection and Diamond Pet Foods. • Trustees will consider approving the recommendation to continue using the Council Chambers for their 2019 monthly sessions. • Principal Suzette Sousa will speak on behalf of Harvest High during her presentation.
