Nicole Bennett is a local yoga and wellness instructor.

She teaches classes at Studio One in Manteca and Releve in downtown Ripon.

Earlier this month, Bennett received the go ahead for "This Nurtured Life With Nicole" as the newest home occupation endeavor in town thanks to the Ripon Planning Commission.

Commissioners voted 5-0 in favor with the caveat of no more than two clients at any one session, business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- Mondays through Fridays -- and conducting anywhere from eight to 10 sessions, at the most, from her home a week.

"We hope nothing but success in your business," Commissioner Debra Van Essen said to Bennett.

Bennett indicated that she's planning to continue teaching at Studio One and Releve in addition to operating her home occupation yoga and wellness sessions.

Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart added that the Ripon Municipal Code for home occupations when pertaining to clients / customers visiting one's home is that "the occupation shall not create vehicular or pedestrian traffic above and beyond that normally generated by residential use of the dwelling unit."

He added the Ripon Municipal Code, in reference to matters like this, is in need of being updated.

"We're looking at other communities to see what they're doing (with home occupations)," Zuidervaart said.
