The Ripon City Council recently approved an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding for employees of the City of Ripon Sergeants’ Association.
By that, it’ll make for a temporary position, said outgoing police Chief Ed Ormonde at the Sept. 12 monthly session. This was his last week on the job after 25 years on the local police force.
Vice Mayor Leo Zuber noted that it was his understanding that this wage adjustment per MOU – effective through June 30, 2024 – was not for a new position but rather for existing sergeants who would rotate through the position.
Ormonde responded, saying that was correct.
“Each of the current sergeants will rotate through an administrative sergeant position for a period,” he said, adding the Chief-select Danny Sauer would then make a decision as to whether or not to move forward with choosing one of the sergeants for the lieutenant position.
Ormonde, in addition, pointed out that the one sergeant assigned to this rotating position would operate on a 9/80 work schedule – a total of eight nine-hour days, one eight-hour day, and one day off spread over two work weeks – and would be available on-call after hours.
