Fourth of July is right around the corner.

With that, the Ripon Police Department posted on the City of Ripon website (www.cityofripon.org) on Friday for all to enjoy the celebration of “our Nation’s Independence.”

But, at the same time, to do so being safe and responsible, in particular, the discharging “safe and sane” fireworks.

Sales will begin at various booths around town today  – TNT and Phantom fireworks – benefiting local non-profit groups. Safe and sane fireworks are only permitted to be sold and discharged from noon, June 28, through midnight, July 4.

Police pointed out the following:

·         Use of safe and sane fireworks outside of this time period is prohibited under City Ordinance.

·         Firework devices not displaying the “safe and sane” symbol are unlawful to possess.

·         City Ordinance allows for police to cite owners, occupants and other persons at or on the property of where these fireworks are being discharged illegally.

Ripon police will have extra officers during this time, working to address the discharge of illegal fireworks along with the safety concerns that may arise for this.

Neighbors can do their part to help out by reporting the use of illegal fireworks in their area.
