Ripon Rotary plans chili cook off, car show Oct. 30

The Ripon Rotary Club Foundation will be hosting a Chili Cook Off and Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Proceeds will go towards Trade School Scholarships graduating seniors at both Ripon High and Ripon Christian High, according to John Mangelos of Ripon Rotary.

He noted that Rotary handed out $1,000 scholarships to students at the two local high schools last year. “It turned out to be $6,000 (in scholarships) to six graduates, three at RC and three at RHS,” Mangelos added.

Rotary is welcoming participants to this year’s Chili Cook Off and Car Show. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those in attendance can try five different chili samples and have a chance to cast a vote for their favorite of the samples for $5.

“For $20, you can get four votes and more samples,” Mangelos said.

First prize for the best chili is $500 – second place prize is $300 while third place is $100. Entry fee for each Chili Cook Off participant is $50.

The entry fee for Car Show participants is $25 in advance and $30 during the day of the event. All makes and model cars are welcome. Call 408.702.7259 or email TMRKJL@yahoo.com.

Trophies will be awarded, including Best of Show along with second and third place.

All participants in the event will receive commemorative ribbons.

The top sponsors earning “Habanero” honors for donating $1,000 for the event are Pizza Plus (Gold Dust Pizza), David Hall Masonry Inc., and the local VFW Post 1051.

The Ice Cream Emporium, Travaille & Phippen, Inc. and Integrity First Realty and Tri Valley Lending were the Jalapeno sponsors ($500 donations).
