Ripon saved 19.5% of water in June

The City of Ripon managed to conserve 19.5 percent in water usage in June.

That was figure posted by Director of Public Works Ted Johnston at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting.

He used the water levels from 2013 as the base line comparison on the monthly update.

As for the 12-month running tally, Johnston noted the Ripon’s water reduction numbers currently stood at 25.3 percent.

He also announced the resignation of Water Conservation Coordinator Kevin Fuller, who spent the past 2½ years educating the public on water conservation techniques and enforcing the water conservation restriction for Ripon. He’s moving to North Carolina.

Johnston said that a replacement for the Water Conservation Coordinator will soon be posted.

Council also heard:

National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 9 o’clock at the Ripon Community Center, according to Ripon police Chief Ed Ormonde. This free family event will again offer food, refreshments and a variety of activities

Ormonde also announced that three recently hired police officers and a dispatcher will soon take the oath of office in the Council Chambers.

Police will host the Central Valley Explorers Challenge this weekend at Ripon Christian High. Cadets from Ripon, Tracy and Manteca, to name a few, will make up the 25 to 30 teams competing in a variety of scenarios.  

Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart reported that the Diamond Pet Food plant will try out some new odor-controlling equipment beginning some time in September. Earlier, elected leaders approved Ascent Environmental Inc., an environmental consulting firm, to prepare the appropriate environmental document for Diamond’s major site plan permit for the purpose of constructing a fourth production line at the existing facility.
