For the second time in nearly a decade, the Ripon Unified is looking to divvy up the attendance boundaries to provide equal representation for each school board member.

This is part of the reapportionment process that’s scheduled for the November 2022 ballot.

The first of two meetings will take place Wednesday at Ripon Elementary School, 509 W. Main St., beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Plans for the redrawn the five Trustee Area boundaries will be unveiled. Those looking to review, comment or have questions about the proposed redistricting map are encouraged to attend, Superintendent Ziggy Robeson said.

A second meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the library of Park View Elementary School, 751 Cindy Dr.

Trustee Kit Oase and former elected leader Ernie Tyhurst have teamed up once again, using the 2020 U.S. Census to make sure that each school board member will have equal representative based on population.

“The process started earlier this year with the completion of the US Census where people in communities across the country, including our own, were counted,” said Robeson.

The last chance for input prior to final approval of reapportionment criteria Is the Aug. 8 school board meeting inside the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Oase and Tyhurst, in compliance with the “one person, one vote” principle, were in charge of the first go-around with reapportionment, as approved by voters in 2014.

Trustees recently adopted a timeline that will lead to the approval of the new boundaries. They also agreed with the tentative criterion used to redraw those lines.

“A new boundary map could be considered during the September-November time period.
