National Night Out is a community-wide event in Ripon.

Each year, Ripon Police Department takes the lead role in this big summer event scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Ripon Community Center, 334 Fourth St.

“It’s a free event where residents can mingle, plays games, and eat,” said police Chief Ed Ormonde at the City Council meeting on July 9.

This year’s NNO marks the 36th anniversary, with Unity in Our Community – scheduled July 29 through Aug. 5 – leading up to this special event.

NNO kicks off with A-MAZE-IN team racing event. Check in is 10 a.m. at the Ripon Police Department.

Each team will be provided with a passport that can be stamped at four designated stops along the way. Those with completed passports will be entered into a drawing with a chance at the grand prize drawing.

The actual NNO is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Free hotdogs along with bottled water, chips, sno-cones, popcorn and cotton candy will be made available thanks to the generosity of area businesses and community members.

The Ripon Ministerial Association also helps out, providing some of the activities for youngsters.

NNO also includes a variety of bounce houses along with a showcase of vehicles and various apparatuses belonging to local police and the Ripon Consolidated Fire District.
