How do the streets in Ripon rate?

According to the 2020 Pavement Management Report, Engineering Supervisor Elizabeth Quilici said on a scale of 0 to 100 – or rated in six categories, from very poor to excellent – the concrete paver streets in town, for example, rated very highly as in “excellent quality,” using the Pavement Condition Index at the March 10 meeting.

This report is to track progress and is brought back before elected leaders every three years, she noted.

The recommended PCI target for the City of Ripon is 70, which, Quilici said, is considered “very good.”

She shared a table with the overall PCI for streets and roads from the last survey conducted in 2016 to that of 2020.

“This latest evaluation shows Ripon’s average PCI score at 68.5 – the same as the survey conducted 2016,” said Quilici.

She pointed out that the City has projects totaling $4.1 million – not included is the Stockton Avenue Rehabilitation Project, which is being funded via the Regional Surface Transportation Program – is backed by Measure K Renewal, City Capital Enterprise Funds, and the Street & Roads Capital Reserve.

Quilici said that the recommended projects here could be completed over the next five years.

She added that most money for roads will go largely towards maintenance.

“This extends the life of the roads and avoids structural failure – so we’re not having to go back and renovating the whole street,” said Quilici, who is scheduled to bring the full report back to council at a later meeting.
