Ripon Unified School District honored the memory of Ralph Roos.

The Director for the South San Joaquin Irrigation District and local resident passed away on June 22.

Roos, 77, played an important role in one of RUSD’s modernization projects, recalled Superintendent Ziggy Robeson at the June 28 meeting.

During the makeover of Colony Oak Elementary School a few years ago, the district was in need of land to address transportation issues and parking off Murphy Road.

“He helped us acquire the land,” said Robeson of Roos, who was the property owner – he was an almond farmer and tree planter for most of his life.

Colony Oak, which was the tail end of the voter-approved Measure G modernization project – Weston was the other half of the makeover from the $25.2 million bond measure – was completed by August 2019.

Roos, in addition, attended Ripon Christian Schools and Dordt College.

He created the Janie Roos Memorial Women’s Basketball Scholarship at his alma mater and was a founding member of the Rooster Booster’s Pheasant Hunt Fundraiser at Dordt.
