Melinda Kopp has been an important person in Ripon.

She was recognized last month for her years of dedication and service to the Ripon Memorial Library by both the Ripon City Council and the Ripon Unified school board.

Kopp, who is retiring as branch librarian after 23 years of service to the local library, was joined by family and friends – couple that with Superintendent Ziggy Robeson, district officials, school board members, and staff – while being honored June 21 at the RUSD meeting.

Roberson called her a “wonderful, caring person.”

Over the years, Kopp inspired reading by hosting various events for students of the school district.

She began her librarian career at the Boston Public Library in 1984.

Kopp was with the San Joaquin County Public Library Systems when she became the branch librarian in Ripon in 1999.

Kopp created and led the All About Babies program, introducing hundreds of local youngsters to the world of reading.

Any and all success, she credited that to the community for their support over the years. “You never do anything alone,” said Kopp, who consistently demonstrated a passion for reading and has a vast knowledge for the various genres of books.
