Upcoming election on board agenda tonight
colony oak1

The Ripon Unified school board will meet tonight in the Ripon High library, 301 N. Acacia St.

Trustees usually conduct their monthly sessions in the Council Chambers, which will be used that same evening for the Planning Commission meeting.

At the 7 p.m. open session, the board will discuss the upcoming general election on Nov. 6.

Three seats are up for grabs, with Chad Huskey in Trustee Area 1, Ernie Tyhurst in Trustee Area 2, and Kit Oase in Trustee Area 3 on expiring terms.

Outside of that, those seeking office must reside inside the Trustee Area district.

Trustee Area 1, for example, covers mostly north of West Ripon Road / Main Street along east of Wilma Avenue, and east of Highway 99 to Colony Road and just west of that.

Trustee Area 2 is most of downtown and south towards the Stanislaus River.

Trustee Area 3 is a portion of downtown north of Main Street to the other side of Highway 99 around Ripona Elementary School.

All three seats for the biennial election are four-year terms.

In other agenda items:

  • The board will conduct a public hearing on the budget and the general fund reserves. Frank Jerome, who is the district’s Chief Operations Officer, will spearhead the presentation for the 2018-19 preliminary adopted budget.
  • Trustees will discuss whether to seek out another bond election – this time for $38.5 million – that would require two-thirds or 55 percent ‘yes’ votes at the Nov. 6 election for “acquisition and improvement of real property and the furnishing and equipping of school facilities,” according to the resolution.
