Ripon voters reject $38.5M school bond

Measure I — the $38.5 million bond designed to modernize Ripon High as well as the Ripona and Ripon elementary schools — has been defeated.

There were 2,277 no votes and 2,184 yes votes with 14 of 14 precincts reporting as of 1 a.m.  That means the bond only garnered 48.96 percent of the vote. It required 55 percent to pass.

There are still provisional ballots to count but with the yes votes trailing 93 votes just to come even with the no votes it is highly unlikely the ballots that haven’t been counted will change the outcome

School bonds in Escalon and Lodi were also defeated. Both required a 55 percent approval. The Linden bond had 55.09 percent of the votes cast as “no” while in Escalon the “no” vote was 52.68 percent.
