River Road will be one of the main streets in the development of northeast Ripon.

Last month, the Ripon City Council awarded the contract for the Ripon Road Widening Project to McFadden Construction, Inc.

At the Jan. 8 meeting, elected leaders authorized Mayor Leo Zuber to sign the agreement with Terracon Consultants, Inc.

Cost is to not exceed $15,000 and will be paid via the Capital Transportation Fund and the City Capital Water Fund.

The Sacramento-based geotechnical testing firm was brought on to provide construction materials testing along with inspection services for the River Road Widening Project.

“The lowest rates received were from Terracon Consultants, who successfully performed testing services on previous projects for the City of Ripon,” said Engineering Supervisor James Pease in his staff report.

He added that the testing will include soil compaction, rock compaction, asphalt / concrete material and compaction on as needed basis during the entirety of the project.

McFadden Construction of Stockton, meanwhile, agreed to do the widening of River Road at $1.3 million – the breakdown on that amount consists of $1.15 million from the Regional State Transportation Program, $102,925 from the AB1600 Water Fund, and $68,788 from the AB 1600 Transportation Fund.
