The Ripon Planning Commission appointed George Saljian as chairman during last week’s reorganization meeting.
He was nominated to the post by Dave Collins, who previously served in that position.
Gary Barton was voted vice chairman. During the past year Saljian served as vice chairman.
The Planning Commission usually meets on the Monday of the following week of the City Council’s scheduled monthly sessions. Due to the holiday (Presidents’ Day), Commissioners met on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
The purpose of the Planning Commission is to review projects and development as related to planning or zoning issues.
Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart noted that no meeting is planned for March, but the following month promises to be a busy one.
“The Ripon Energy project will be coming to the April meeting as well as a request from Diamond Pet Food (plant) to add a fourth line,” he said.
Of the latter, Zuidervaart added that a joint workshop between City Council and the Planning Commission is penciled in for March in order “to get the Planning Commission up to speed on the process that has been taking place with the environmental portion of Diamond Pet Food,” he said.
