The City of Ripon was awarded funds a few years ago for the purpose of installing a traffic signal at the intersection of East Main Street and Highway 99 northbound on and off ramps.
Currently, the traffic is controlled by stop signs, with future growth not too far away – for starters, plans call for the construction of the four-story Towneplace Suites by Mariott Hotel (next to the Angle Petroleum service station), which is scheduled to break ground during the summer.
At Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting, representatives from Fehr & Peers will present the traffic operations study findings at the 6 p.m. session in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
Elected leaders approved a proposal from the transportation consulting firm at the February 2023 meeting to perform a study to identify traffic conditions for the current and buildout traffic volumes coupled with recommended lane configuration at the intersection.
In addition, Fehrs & Peers evaluated possible benefits to mitigate the impacts of cut-through traffic at this intersection.
The City of Ripon was awarded $480,000 for the East Main Traffic Signal Project via the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program back in 2019.
According to the staff report, the funds received are only eligible for construction and also require a 33 percent local match.
