STOCKTON — With the threat of PG&E creating an emergency by possibly cutting off power to much of San Joaquin County for 2 to 5 days during extreme wildfire conditions, the San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services has launched SJReady.org, a new resource aimed at motivating citizens of San Joaquin County to take action to prepare for a disaster.
The new website, SJReady.org provides San Joaquin County residents information on how to develop an emergency plan, build an emergency kit, stay informed, and get involved.
SJReady.org is a website in which people can find information on emergency preparedness for specific disasters that could affect San Joaquin County. SJReady.org provides multiple resources for the community to aid in their preparedness efforts before disaster strikes. These include resources for families and those with businesses in the area.
During real-time emergency events, such as flood warnings, watches, or extreme weather events, SJReady.org will be a source for up-to-date information on a local event, with specific instructions for the community to protect themselves. This could include information on evacuation alerts and warnings, or where to find a shelter.
The information on preparedness will be updated based upon the current threats or hazards. Such as prior to flood season, helpful reminders on how to prepare for flooding events will be prevalent in the site, or during hot weather events, there will be information regarding heat emergencies.
“This is an exciting step in our ongoing Community Outreach efforts by the Office of Emergency Services,” said Marcia Cunningham, the Director of Emergency Services. “If SJReady.org can help one person in our community to develop their own emergency plan or kit, then it’s worth the extra effort. Every person that can care for themselves during an emergency, is one less person emergency responders will need to attend to.”
San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services encourages all San Joaquin County residents to bookmark SJReady.org and visit frequently for new and up-to-date information on emergency preparedness that is relevant to our citizens.
The development of SJReady.org is a collaborated effort between San Joaquin County Information Systems Department and Office of Emergency Services.
