Some in Ripon go without power for more than 15 hours

Strong gusting winds the previous evening affected PG&E customers throughout the region.

For the City of Ripon, that meant 964 households were all but left in the dark during the early evening hours. Those numbers increased as the night wore on.

Cathy Miller, for one, went well over 15 hours in the dark before power was restored to her Colony Road home shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday. She posted that on social media.

Others living near Manley Road and Milgeo Avenue near Spring Creek Golf and Country Club saw their power finally restored by 3 p.m.

Still others noted that they had power at their homes during the evening storm but no Spectrum cable / internet.

“It was a very windy last night,” Susan Brunnell posted shortly before noon while working at home.

She added: “I see the City of Ripon workers pull up to my house, walk up to the drain of my street and clear them out – (they) picked up branches, etc., along the street and sidewalks.”

Brunnell and others expressed thanks to the City workers for their efforts.

Residents, in addition, reported toppled fences and other fallen debris from trees.

Through the end of the month, Public Works will continue to pick up branches, loose yard trimmings and leaves. Those items must be placed just outside the sidewalk gutters.

Branches should not be more than four feet long or six inches in diameter. No tree stumps will be accepted.

It is not necessary to call City Hall for the pickup – a special Public Works crew – with no set route – will be out checking the neighborhoods.
