The biggest pop culture event to hit the area is this weekend.

The eighth annual StocktonCon will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at the Stockton Arena, 248 W. Fremont St.

Cost at the door during the event is $20 per day, $25 for both days.

Tickets are available at 30 locations around northern California or online at http://stocktoncon.com/tickets.

“A large array of artists, exhibitors and special guests will once again be in attendance at StocktonCon. More than 200 exhibitors and artists will be a part of the fun – with fans in attendance able to find lost treasures and art commissions,” said organizer Mike Millerick.

He started StocktonCon in 2012 as a seemingly modest one-day event at the University of the Pacific’s Spanos Center.

But thanks to overwhelming fan support, this event has developed over the years as one of the top pop culture events on the West Coast.

Once again, Ramon Villalobos, who is a 2005 graduate of Manteca High, will be among the impressive list of comic creators at StocktonCon.

Among his credits are Young Avengers, WildCATS, E is For Extinction, NightHawk, and America.

He’ll join the likes of Nick Dragotta (East of West, Fantastic Four), Scott Koblish (Deadpool), Dan Brereton (Batman, Nocturnals), and Justin Greenwood (Stumptown, The Last Siege).

Special guests include wrestling legend Kurt Angle (Saturday only) and John Glover (Smallville, Shazam) as well as voice actors George Newbern (Justice League, Scandal) and Susan Eisenberg (Justice League, Wonder Woman); and Power Rangers’ Austin St. John and Nakia Burrise.

The StocktonCon, in addition, will have costume contest at 5 p.m. today.

As for proceeds, some of it will go directly to United Way and other local charities.
