Suspect caught after theft of third vehicle
crime

Greed helped lead to the arrest of a vehicle theft suspect.

Manteca Police responded to an alarm sounding Thursday at 2:30 a.m. at Sunset Motors located at 910 West Yosemite Avenue. An officer responding witnessed a silver colored sedan leaving the parking lot of Sunset Motors.

The officer made a U-turn and attempted to follow the sedan but it took off at a high rate of speed. The sedan traveled eastbound on West Yosemite and had gained a significant distance from the officer’s patrol vehicle. The sedan attempted to turn northbound on North Main Street but it collided with the traffic signal pole on the north ast corner.

As the officer arrived at the location of the collision the suspect ran from the sedan. The officer followed the suspect but he continued to run trying to evade arrest. The officer followed the suspect as he ran through the alley behind the 133 Club located on West Yosemite Ave. The suspect turned while running in the alley and was blocked off due to a dead end. The officer took the suspect into custody without any further incident.

After further investigation it was determined the suspect had stolen the sedan from Sunset Motors. Two other vehicles were also determined to have been stolen from the car dealership. The suspect was  later transported to San Joaquin County Jail for burglary, auto theft, hit and run, resisting arrest, and conspiracy.
