Suspected theft returns to store in ill-fated bid to return merchandise

If you’re going to return to the same store that you allegedly stole from just days before, it’s probably best not to be wearing the same clothes you had the first time.

That’s a lesson that Lathrop Police claim Ronald Plasencia hadn’t learned on Sunday after he was apprehended by loss prevention officers at Target while wearing the same exact clothes he had on the week before when he allegedly stole a $150 pair of headphones and a $270 bicycle.

Lathrop Police were not alerted to the initial theft because there was no other information about the man believed to be responsible, but when he returned to the store, loss prevention officers recognized him by what he was wearing and alerted the authorities. Officers responded and took him into custody on charges of burglary as well as two outstanding warrants.

Plasencia was released from custody and will have to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court to answer to the new charges as well as the outstanding warrants. He was also given a 1-year no trespass warning by the store, making it possible for police to arrest him if he returns to the property.
