Two separate plans calling for new tennis courts in town was recently mentioned at the Ripon Planning Commission.
The first one had been in the making for some time.
Back in July, the City of Ripon entered into an agreement with the Love-Love Tennis Foundation to help bring a tennis center to the Mistlin Sports Park.
Love-Love Ripon is a local non-profit that began talks of a new tennis facility in recent years.
The Memorandum of Understanding or MOU signed between the city and the Love-Love Ripon Foundation defined the responsibilities between the two parties in the construction of the Tennis Complex project.
Funding, according to the MOU, called for 50 percent of the cost for the tennis courts and associated elements (fencing, lighting, grading, utilities, and ADA access) to be donated by the Foundation.
The other 50 percent of the project and associated elements (parking lot, restrooms, access roads, and landscaping / irrigation) would be picked up by the City of Ripon.
Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart said at the Feb. 20 Planning Commission meeting that staff received an application from the tennis courts at Mistlin. “We will be bringing that to a future meeting,” he said.
The other plan came from Ripon Christian Schools.
“(RC) is looking to build tennis courts and is planning to bring that item to the Planning Commission in April,” Zuidervaart added.
