The City of Lathrop’s July 1st Birthday Celebration is coming up.

One of the features of this special event marking 35 years of the city’s incorporation will be the Walking Parade at the Generations Center, 450 Spartan Way.

“Decorate your wagon or stroller and wear your best red, white, and blue or Americana,” said the City of Lathrop via social media.

The Walking Parade is a free participation event that will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1. Pre-registration is suggested but not required. Walk-ups are also welcome.

Those taking part can check in at the pop-up tent located near the Kids’ Stage, with the parade consisting of one loop around the stage.

Those in attendance can enjoy the various activities and amenities such as food trucks, vendors, carnival games, rides, and inflatable slides and bounce houses.

Entertainment will include a music performance from the band Thunder Cover.

Of course, the big part of the Birthday Celebration will once again feature the aerial fireworks show that will kick off at about 9:30 p.m.

Lathrop was incorporated in 1989 with the first General Plan being adopted in 1991.

In June 2022, the city welcomed the Lathrop Police Department consisting of 42 sworn officers – that number increased by 20 percent some seven months later to accommodate growth.

Speaking of which, Lathrop is currently ranked fifth among the nation’s fastest-growing cities, with its population increasing 13.6 percent in recent years, to just over 39,000 currently.

River Islands is part of that growth. The planned community along the San Joaquin River – nearly 5,000 total acres in all – has a projected build-out of 15,000 homes. On top of that, River Islands High School is scheduled to open in the coming months.
