LOTS TO DO SATURDAY
Free shredding & yodeling to Main Street Day
EU cleanup
Steve Paul has been among the volunteers helping keep East Union Cemeterys grounds in shape. For information on how to help see story page A8.

Looking for something to do Saturday?
You can do everything from taking sensitive paperwork to be shredded for free to the City of Manteca’s corporation yard on Wetmore Street, enjoy the last street festival of the season at Main Street Day in downtown Ripon to volunteer to spruce up the East Union Cemetery or enjoy a meal — or a glass of wine — while helping local causes.
Starting things off is the Manteca Shred-It event. It starts an hour earlier than usual and ends an hour earlier as well. The free event is Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at the solid waste office at 201 E. Wetmore Street just east of the Manteca Animal Shelter on South Main Street.
Manteca Police encourage residents to bring all of their personal documents and records to be shredded at no charge. Bring them in either in bags or boxes. Do not bring magazines or books to be shredded.
Police officers remind people that vagrants rummaging through brown carts scrounging for old bills, payment stubs and even envelopes with addresses and names that they sell by the bag full to criminals that specialize in identify theft. The only way to protect yourself from becoming an ID theft victim via garbage collection is to shred such documents.
They also will take all phones and cell phones for recycling.  It is free to all City of Manteca residents.

Main Street Day
in Ripon Saturday
The Ripon Main Street Day in downtown Ripon takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The free Ripon Chamber of Commerce event is the last street festival of the year. It features a car show, music, vendors, food, entertainment, and kids’ activities. There are also a number of downtown Manteca residents to enjoy as well as several unique retailers. For more, information go to www.riponchamber.org.
