Louise Ave. section closing to traffic

LATHROP – Avoid the section of Louise Avenue between McKinley and Fifth Street on June 16 and 17.

This major commuter traffic artery will be closed during those two days – Wednesday and Thursday – to allow work crews to repair and replace the Union Pacific Railroad crossing panels on Louise Avenue.

This work is part of the continuing construction process that will eventually widen Louise Avenue to four lanes – two for each east-west direction – from the city limits to the east near the Manteca Unified School District office to the Fifth Street intersection to the west. Completion of this road-widening project will bring this stretch of Louise Avenue up to par with the rest of this major traffic collector all the way to the point west of Interstate 5 where it becomes the River Islands Parkway.

Louise Avenue will be closed also on Wednesday, June 23, for the workers to replace a portion of the Union Pacific Railroad’s crossing panel at the eastern city limit. This job will require Louise Avenue to be closed for a day.

Detour signs will be placed by Knife River Construction, the company contracted by the city to complete the Louise Avenue widening and improvement of the intersection at Louise and McKinley, at various places for motorists’ convenience.

Detour routes will include Harlan Road south of Louise, D’Arcy Parkway, Yosemite Avenue, McKinley Avenue and Airport Way.

Work on Louise Avenue between McKinley and Fifth Street will continue after Pacific Gas & Electric Company has completed removing the existing power poles and installing the new ones. The utility company is expected to complete this part of the road-widening project sometime next year.
